HEARING AIDS-INTEGRITY IN SERVING YOUR CLIENTS-A VERY INDIVIDUAL DECISION-A REFLECTION OF CHARACTER-

Hearing Aids review
A long time Client, who has to drive about 50 miles to our Office, called and said he thought his Wife needed a Hearing Aid for her ear that didn't have one.

The Husband wears 2 hearing aids, and appreciates the benefit of using 2 hearing aids.

When I interviewed the both of them, he felt that his wife"s hearing had changed and had gotten worse, and he felt she needed to wear 2 hearing aids, to function as well as he did, with his 2 hearing aids.

This Couple have a lot of money, so finances, were not a consideration.

I administered the Standard Hearing Test on his Wife, and found that her hearing levels had not changed in the 2 years since her last test.

When I listened to her Hearing Aid, I determined that the aid was not functioning correctly.

She asked me if I thought she should buy another Hearing Aid and wear 2 of them, and I explained that the reason she wasn't hearing the way she had, was due to the fact that her existing single hearing aid, wasn't working correctly.

My recommendation was that we repair her existing hearing aid, and then after she wears it, she and her husband are the most qualified to determine whether she can get by, for her purposes, by wearing one hearing aid.

If not, then we can fit her with another one.

Let there be no doubt that the use of 2 Hearing Aids is better than the use of 1.

In her case, as in the majority of every other instance, the hearing levels in both ears are usually the same withine 5 decibels.

It would have been very easy for me to have sold her an additional hearing aids.

They were primed and ready.

But would that really have been the best strategy?

I don't think so.

That would have been what every other Hearing Aid Dispenser would have done.

It would have been obvious, what the motivation was.

These People haven't been coming to me, from 50 miles away, to be treated the way they would have been in their local area.

After she uses her repaired hearing aid, if she and her husband feel, she needs another hearing aid, then it will be their decision, not mine, and there is no doubt in my mind, they will come back to me.

Its called Trust and Integrity.

Do what is to the best interest of the Client.

Its good business.

I am a hearing aid dispenser with 25 years experience. When I started audiologists refused to fit hearing aids and 90% were monaural (one ear). We all know what happens to the unaided ear. Auditory deprivation and reduction of spatial sound perception renders the user half repaired at best. You may have done the customer a disservice if you did not educate her on the many benefits of binaural amplification. I have RARELY had a customer return ONE hearing aid.
