Hearing Aids complaint
A stranger called my office today, and asked if they could come in immediately.

I of course told them they could, and this older couple presented themselves in the early afternoon.

They were kind of country.

The wife is the one that had the hearing problem, and owned 2 old custom made hearing aids, which were not working.

One of the older aids was a NuEar canal aid, and the other was from Hearing Express, a mail-order company that sells hearing aids through the mail.

They paid about $350 per hearing aid.

They had paid about $995 for the NuEar custom made canal aid.

The reason they bought the Hearing Express hearing aids, was because they couldn't afford another NuEar Hearing Aid and they took a chance on the "Through the mail" hearing aids.

I administered a Standard Hearing Test on the Hearing Aid User and discovered her left ear was much worse than her right ear.

All the hearing aids she had, were non-programmable analog hearing aids.

Because of the loss in Her left ear, I recommended a full shell ITE with a power circuit.

We offer a program, whereby the Hearing Aid User can turn in their Hearing Aid and have it remade into the Hearing Aid they need, even if it involves making a different model.

In other words, she could turn her custom made NuEar Canal Aid in to our Repair Lab, and they would exchange it for a power ITE Aid with a lot more power.

Our price for remaking and upgrading her old hearing aid was $595

We could repair the existing Hearing Aid for $189.95 but in doing so I didn't know if it would be strong enough for her.

To determine whether she could hear in her left ear with the smaller canal aid, we had her put the right aid into her left ear, and surprisingly it seemed to work for her needs.

I masked her right ear, meaning that we had her hold the hear-set over her right ear with White Noise (Wind) at 70db, so that she was not evaluating her left ear with the small canal aid, with the benefit of the right ear being open or with a Hearing Aid in place.

Even though she couldn't hear through her right ear at all, she was able to understand speed with the small canal aid, so we decided to try and repair the NuEar Canal Aid for her left ear, since it was the least expensive way to go.

I spent more time with this Couple than most Providers spend with Prospects for a $5,000 set of hearing aids.

But our motto is, that we do what is to the best interest of our Clients.

This Couple couldn't afford anything more than what I offered them, and I hope that our solution works.

I am confident that if she could hear with the Mickey Mouse Express Ear standard aid, then She certainly will do better with the repaired NuEar hearing aid.

No question in my mind.

I don't know how many Corporate Type Hearing Aid Centers, would spend that much time with Clients, and would even suggest remaking old hearing aids or even want to repair old existing hearing aids.

The Thrust today, in the Hearing Aid Industry, is to sell, sell, sell, New Hearing Aids, for as much as you can.

Its all about profit...not People.

Buyer Beware
